We live in a new era where independent and project-focused workplace takes on the spotlight. Long gone are the days of having brick-and-mortar jobs as the only work option to grab. Freelancing has dazzlingly changed the world of work. 

One in every 3 persons is a freelancer. The growth of freelancing is not a surprise. From 3.7 million in 2014, the number goes up to 56.7 million in 2018. This comprises approximately 36% of the country’s workforce. Irrefutably, more and more Americans have found the right career in freelancing. What makes it more amazing is the fact that it offered an enticing opportunity for younger generations to earn a living.

Freelancers can choose projects to work on and clients to work with. Also, they have the option to work with as many clients as they want, all at the same time. They have the final say on how much they can earn each month.

Freelancers have the rule over their workload. They can work as little or as much as they desire. They can select projects that are meaningful to them. They can work on tasks that fascinate them. They can enjoy summer by working part-time and make good cash throughout the year by getting a full-time job for the rest of the year.

As compared to regular employees, freelancers do not enjoy benefits. Though some clients provide few benefits to its freelancers, it comes once in a blue moon. Freelancers are responsible for their own health insurance simply because they are self-employed individuals.

Freelancing is like running your own company. Freelancers have the sole responsibility of getting clients, collecting payments, paying taxes, and managing a good relationship with their customers. They make intelligent decisions every now and then. They acquaint themselves with the “ins and outs” of the market like that in payment tracking software and programs to install.  

Freelancers, to be successful, must be ready to manage all these tasks spotlessly. The very moment they start a freelance career, they must run it like a business. Freelancers are the masters of their brand.

For a few people, being able to work alone is more of a blessing than a difficulty. On the other hand, isolation is the most common challenge among many freelancers. For highly sociable individuals, being ultimately isolated from a team takes their social life little by little. So it is a good idea to have someone nearby to work with you as a freelancer.
