Stay Productive When You Work from Home

Published

on

A lot of people today have been spending so much time at home and do things they don’t usually do. Everybody looks forward to ending all these and get back to what it was used to be. As we sit comfortably on the couch, we sometimes imagine ourselves to be reporting to work and accomplish the day’s to-do lists.

Coronavirus changes everything in a drop of a hat. For a person like you who have been spending all your life working, requiring you to stay at home is a punishment. To tell you, it is a hard transition.  Expectations on you are the same yet the setting is different.

What Can You Do to Work from Home Productively?

Fortunately, there are a couple of ways for you to stay productive as you work from home. You might find these tips helpful as the world fights against the pandemic.

1.    Choose a comfortable working area.

Choosing a working area inside the house that makes you feel comfortable and creative is a good start. Make sure to have a little table near you to have some extra space as you work. Also, prop yourself with some throw pillows to maintain good posture.

2.    Remove clutters around.

Before you start working, get rid of those messes around your chosen working hub. A pile of home errands near you steals your focus on work. To be productive, don’t get sidetracked with anything. This way, you will be able to get more engrossed with the things you need to accomplish.

3.     Set yourself up for another day of work.

Wearing a pair of pajamas might hinder you from being productive as you work. Start your day with a healthy breakfast. Get dressed as if you are working in an office. And buckle up for work with the right mindset.

4.    Create an ambiance that is perfect for a home office.

To do this, put some fresh flowers, gorgeous crystals, houseplants, and candles in your work area. Turn the task light on. These elements make the environment more inspiring and calming- a secret to a cozy and productive day.

5.    Set a work schedule.

When all things are set, rift up your day to create a balance between work and personal well-being. If you feel creative and fruitful in the morning, well then, work on your projects and tasks an hour after waking up. Save the remaining hours to relax and workout.  Decide on your start time, breaks, and log off time. This will keep you more task-oriented without the need to compromise “me time”.

6.    Make use of your break time to roam around.

A change in atmosphere enables you to freshen up and be more imaginative. A 10- minute walk outside is perfect. You may also love to invite your co-workers or friends for short chitchat on Skype.

Don’t let coronavirus stop you from being productive as you work from home. The secret to work-life balance is building boundaries. Don’t get eaten up with tasks at hand. Make sure to log off from the day’s work and enjoy doing the rest of the things that love to do at home. We all need it.

Happy working!

How to Keep Your Relationship Strong While Working Remotely From Home?

Published

on

Working remotely from home does not have to be suffocating.

Some years back, the idea of working from home was nothing but a trend. But then, many global organizations find it more viable and pleasing. Although this working option entails varied opinions from people, strong proponents of working remotely from home find it a win-win situation. The company keeps hard-to-find employees and gets the desired result while the remote employees enjoy the treat. They even find it more comfortable and cost-effective because they don’t have to go back and forth and spend much on transportation.

Some employees say that working remotely from home has made them happier and more productive. On the other hand, it hinders the growth of a strong relationship in an organization. With less opportunity to exchange “hi and hellos, most employees experience social skill deterioration.

That being said, experts shared some ways on how to sustain a good relationship with colleagues in the face of working from home.

What are Simple Ways to Build a Powerful Relationship while Working Virtually?

Make yourself available to others.

No matter how demanding your tasks are, be accessible to your colleagues. You can’t blame them for doubting your credibility and trustworthiness to meet the project deadline when you don’t take action to their last-minute escalations. It is important to make them feel that you are just a few clicks away from them.

Set expectation. Establish a block of time to which you make yourself completely available to your team. Make them understand that beyond the previously agreed block of time, you might not able to respond to their queries on time. But for circumstances that you needed to step out to perform some quick errands, give them a heads up.

Take advantage of existing collaborative tools.

Due to the wealth of web-powered communication tools, you don’t have any reason not to know the ins and outs of your team. Google Hangouts, Zoom, and Skype are some of the numerous collaborative tools that you can utilize in building rapport with the people you work with. These tools are free. So, go ahead and schedule a bi-monthly virtual team meeting. Have your team block their calendars on the agreed schedule. Virtual meetings like this allow you to discuss the project’s progress as well as any existing roadblock. Remember, you need not physical interaction to stay connected with your colleagues. Keep the virtual connection healthy by sending their social media posts a “like”.

Have small talks regularly.

Whenever your team has been called for a virtual meeting, never start it right away with the first agenda. Instead, engage them in short chitchat while waiting for others to join the conference. Break the ice by asking them the things that keep them busy these days other than work. You may also check how they are doing. A two-minute informal talk fills up the gap that separates everyone in the team.

Break the communication barrier by being honest and open.

Meeting your colleagues for the first time makes you feel uneasy and formal. But as you sneak your way into your team’s working attitude, you start to recognize their unique personalities. Get your relationship stronger by being honest with your thoughts and open-mindedness to individual differences. If there is an opportunity to meet them personally, go ahead and grab it. This is your chance to be more personal which, in turn, makes the relationship and communication even more rewarding.

Here’s the real catch. A healthy relationship at work is a dominant determiner of organizational success. When employees feel psychologically safe and worthy, they become more productive. It is this context that every virtual worker should show a genuine effort to build a meaningful relationship with his colleagues.

Though the challenge isn’t easy since the opportunity to engage someone in short chitchat is very less at a remote working scenario. However, recognizing the relevance of a strong co-worker relationship is enough reason to make friends and build connections.
